Key take aways of the State of the European Union Speech 2025 and Outlook

On September 10th, the president of the EU commission, Ursula von der Leyen gave her yearly State of the European Union address.

The speech took place in a week where on Sunday the Romanian government survived four confidence votes over a mild cut of a 8,6% budget deficit, where on Monday the French government fell over a crushing defeat in a battle to rein in a 5,6 % budget deficit, where on Tuesday Israel attacked and eliminated at least parts of the Hamas negotiating team in Quatar and where on Wednesday, Russian drones entered NATO territory deeply over Poland, whilst another case of fatal political violence shocked the public in the US.

In our Berlin Global Advisors policy briefing, we lay out the policy agenda of the European Commission for the next twelve months in the four areas of defence, energy, digital and trade, containing an analysis of the key policy initiatives and a detailed overview of the respective legislative and implementation timelines.

BGA stands ready to engage over how the new geoeconomic environment, policy making and regulatory implementation in Brussels and Member States affect business – in and outside the European Union.
